This channel is dedicated to short and concise knitting tutorials without any frills. It's my second channel and I invite you to check out my main channel where I go into much greater depth, share lots of additional information on patterns, individual stitches, and all things knitting.
But while I have gotten a lot of positive feedback for this approach, I also noticed some people just want to see how it's knitted plain and simple. Without alternatives, without the history, or possible variations. So, all my videos will be three at least three repetitions of the video and a slow-mo repeat on top of that.

The hitch knot increase (HKI) is a very smart (but rare) increase based on the girth hitch knot. So you pull a loop around the knitting needle. Instead of pulling the tail through that loop, you knit stitches through either side of it. This is so beatifully and well explained. Thank you! 🤗
Hi Norman. Your videos are a Godsend! Whenever I need knitting advice I come to your channel. You’re an amazing teacher! Thank you for all your help.
Just what I needed. Vielen Dank!
Thanks for this demo. I haven’t needed a left tilt k2tog in ages. I haven’t knit in ages. Nowadays my hands are arthritic and I’m limited in how well I can manipulate the stitches. I found it a bit tedious, but much easier for me, if a use a crochet hook to do the left tilt k2tog. Please someone give it a try.
Thank you Mr. Norman! This was helpful. ❤
Thank you!!! I've been knitting for years, but I could never pick up a garter stitch!
thank you so much for the great tutorial 💛 you always make it clear and easy to understand
Thank you for that I will give it a try. I’ve been knitting for 70 years and you never stop learning.
Thank you🙏🏽💕✨
Any chance you could show this when holding the yarn in the right hand. I use the throw style of knitting and I can’t work this out!!😊
my channel focuses on continental knitting, sorry.
The difficulty of fixing dropped stitches was what turned me away from knitting and onto crochet years ago! Now I'm trying to make socks and crochet just doesn't produce enough stretch, so I'm trying to get started knitting again. This video is exactly what I am going to need 😂
ironically, fixing mistakes in knitting is a looooot easier than in crochet (where you mostly always have to unravel)
I’m a long time knitter and a long time user of the long tail cast on. I’m really liking this crochet cast on, hopefully it works left handed.
Thank you!! That is so much easier and simpler than the Judy's (not so) Magic Cast On. Now I can embark on a toe-up sock knitting adventure 😘
i love the "not so" :) i really wish we could skip that bit in knitting terminology
With this method, there is no wasted yarn. I used even the smallest piece left over. Thank you so much for this video. I designed a shawl using wool instead of Acrylic yarn.
I like that you are adding slow motion to some of your videos. It really helps if I want to knit along with you.
Hi Norman. Thank you for this helpful video. A question I have is when you have stitch markers, whether they be closed ir removable, I assume you just go around them? Thank you!
that depends on whether it's an openable stitch marker or a fixed one. But in reality, you could remove the fixed on as you pick up stitches later on either way.
Very nice tutorial thank you so much
Thank you!
Hey wtf are you doing
^^
Love your videos!
This maybe a dumb question. I am new and have mastered garter stitch. I can purl but slowly. I love the look of stockinette andcwould lovevto makeca blanket with it. How do i eliminate the curl without a garter stitch border?
you don't. The curl is part of stockinette stitch. it's either a border or you block it with starch (but well..that's not really a good idea with a blanket)
Vielen Vielen Dank! Besten Dank! Danke sehr! After struggling for hours with my pinhole cast on w/ other methods, I finally thought "I'll bet Nimble Needles has a good tutorial". The methods you show in your video are the best I have seen. I especially like the crochet method and it is what finally helped me be successful. I could have saved myself hours of time and frustration if I had just come to you first. 💗
Thank you for a short and good instruction 🎉
Great tutorial
An actual lifesaver 😭 thank you!
You have been my knitter teacher for more than 20 times, thank you so so much, I always wanted to learn how to knit and thanks to you I’ve been able to learn and improve gorgeously ❤❤❤
Absolutely brilliant demonstration. Saved me re-kintting 8 rows. Thank you.
Thank you for the in-the-round instructions!!
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. You are an excellent teacher!! I purchased the recommended Knitter’s Pride dpn -love them.
The clearest tutorial I've watched so far
Thank you for showing the technique with both methods of knitting :)
Thank you so much, this is gonna be super useful
Best version I've seen of the pinhole cast on, which I have found to be a pain in the neck, you make this look so easy. Thank You.
Hi I’m so lost! I’m trying and trying but I don’t know when to do the k2tog or ssk, where do you start decreasing? Do you do up to a certain amount of stitches before decreasing? Thank you!
it sounds like you are trying to knit something but you did not mention what. without that, I wouldn't be able to help you in the first place. But even then, my recommendation would be to follow a dedicated pattern for beginners before you venture into trying to create your own patterns.
Thank you Norman
thank you , problem solved !
Thank you Norman 🙏💞
Thank you, Thank YOu! I think I’ve finally got it!, My European relatives taught me to knit this way as a child, I remembered just enough to never feel comfortable with English style, despite multiple attempts to “teach me the correct easier way !”.
Was very helpful. Thank you for sharing ❤
Was a bit of a struggle since i am left handed and had to mirror each step in my head but i finally did it! :D (I know i could have mirrored the video but i couldn’t be bothered hehe) Watching the slow motion part over and over and over again eventually did the trick!!
So, this increase will look the same on the left increase side of project too?
yap
Hi there. Thank you for this very clear video. Just one thing, if you haven't already done so: could you show us how to switch from garter stitch to (bottom loop to top loop) to purl or plain. And if you reply -- this being 3 years ago -- I might quiz you as to how to follow a pattern using 'wrap' and turns .
hm..i don't think this warrants an extra video. I do have a video on the kitchener stitch, tho.
Love that you reviewed both methods! Thank you ❤
It took me over half an hour of googling and YouTubing before I found this video, I just wanted to know how to start of knitting a new colour, thank you!
So helpful!! Thank you!
I think you miswrote the video title? You wrote "knit", instead of "knot" as you say in the video.
oh wow. thx for that!
np, thanks for correcting it, makes iteasier to find when searching for it😊
Always on the mark! Such simple well explained and demonstrated problem solver. Thank you🎉❤❤❤😊
Is there a version of this for knitting in the round?
no..but I am not sure why you would think this would be different?
@@nimbleneedlestwo thank you, I realised this after posting 😬
OKAY! I have been looking for answers on this one I keep getting garter stitches thank you thank you!
Thank you for this tutorial; do you show anywhere how to distribute this cast on to four double points? I'm finding that particularly challenging because the last stitch is so open-ended. I'm pretty sure that you know a way to secure that stitch:)
well...a lot of people will knit flat for 2 or 4 round and then join in the round to fix that problem.
